KS2 Physical Education
KS2 National curriculum
PE at Wollescote is set out to support the governments approach to PE in the form of the national curriculum. Within the National Curriculum for Key Stage 2, we have set out our lessons and assessment criteria to meet the following guidelines:
Pupils should continue to apply and develop a broader range of skills, learning how to use them in different ways and to link them to make actions and sequences of movement. They should enjoy communicating, collaborating and competing with each other.
They should develop an understanding of how to improve in different physical activities and sports and learn how to evaluate and recognise their own success.
Pupils should be taught to:
- Use running, jumping, throwing and catching in isolation and in combination
- Play competitive games, modified where appropriate [for example, badminton, basketball, cricket, football, hockey, netball, rounders and tennis], and apply basic principles suitable for attacking and defending
- Develop flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance [for example, through athletics and gymnastics]
- Perform dances using a range of movement patterns
- Take part in outdoor and adventurous activity challenges both individually and within a team  compare their performances with previous ones and demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best.
Ongoing Assessment
Assessment in PE is important so that we can follow the progression of the children throughout their time at Wollescote and see what they need to improve on or what they excel in. An example of our PE assessment is shown below:
As Coaches we will assess each child within an award, very much like the swimming assessments. We will assess eight skills listed above in award 3 for example, their are eight skills which the children will focus on and will receive a green box if they complete a skill.
When we feel a child has passed a skill we will date it and write a comment, about what they have done, as seen as above from Mrs Hubscher.
PE Award
New for this year we are implementing a similar award system to the swimming awards. We as a team will be assessing as above but now will be handing out certificates if they complete an award.
There are 7 awards which the children can get their hands on and will be rewarded with these awards once they achieved a set number of targets within the award. An example of the award certificates can be seen below:

Lunchtime Activities
Every half term on the Key Stage 2 Playground the coaches has set out a daily challenge at lunchtime for every child. They will take part in the challenge and the child with the highest score will represent their class for that challenge. The scores are then compared with the other classes and then tallied up throughout the week until we get an overall class winner for the week!
Below is a list of the challenges for this half term:
- Monday - Skipping
- Tuesday - Jumping
- Wednesday - Spotty Dogs
- Thursday - Sprints
- Friday - Star Jumps
The overall winner for the week will then receive a certificate for their class which they display in their classroom:
