KS1 National Curriculum

PE at Wollescote is set out to support the governments approach to PE in the form of the national curriculum. Within the National Curriculum for Key Stage 1, we have set out our lessons and assessment criteria to meet the following guidelines:

Pupils should develop fundamental movement skills, become increasingly competent and confident and access a broad range of opportunities to extend their agility, balance and coordination, individually and with others.

They should be able to engage in competitive (both against self and against others) and co-operative physical activities, in a range of increasingly challenging situations.

Pupils should be taught to: 

• Master basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination.

• Begin to apply these in a range of activities

• Participate in team games, developing simple tactics for attacking and defending

• Perform dances using simple movement patterns.

Ongoing Assessment

Assessment in PE is important so that we can follow the progression of the children throughout their time at Wollescote and see what they need to improve on or what they excel in. An example of our PE assessment is shown below:

As Coaches we will assess each child in the four key skills listed above, within them four skills there are attributes that work towards each component, as an example, Agility is part of a fundamental skill stage.

When we feel a child has passed this stage we will date it, mark it green and write a comment as seen as above from Mrs Hubscher.

PE Award

New for this year we are implementing a similar award system to the swimming awards. We as a team will be assessing as above but now will be handing out certificates if they complete an award.

There are 7 awards which the children can get their hands on and will be rewarded with these awards once they achieved a set number of targets within the award. An example of the award certificates can be seen below:

Personal Target Posters

This year we have implemented a personal best page so the child can see their progression and set themselves a new target for each term and see if they beat their previous terms target. The Personal Best Posters are shown below:

Each child will attempt a score on a lunchtime and then write their scores down on the posters to see if they have beaten their target for the term.
